McGill University Chapter of the Vertical Flight Society has officially been reinstated for the 2018-2019 school year! The executive team of the Chapter consists of 7 aerospace enthusiasts who are also McGill Engineering students (six in Mechanical Engineering and one in Civil Engineering). The students formed the executive committee in March of 2018 due to their deep interest in vertical flight. VFS McGill is a wonderful chance for students to bridge the gap between vertical flight and the aerospace industry. This group is also a great opportunity for students to begin building their future careers, especially in the booming aerospace hub of Montreal. Although there was briefly an American Helicopter Society McGill Chapter from 2015-2017 this group has been reinstated and with the help of their faculty advisor Dr. Inna Sharf and our industry advisor Siarhei Kudzinauv, the McGill chapter will be long-lasting this time around.
They kicked off the school year with a Meet and Greet in October where they introduced the club to the campus and were able to engage with students interested in vertical flight. They had an exciting turnout for this event and recruited a team of students who are willing to participate in the Micro Air Vehicle Competition together this year. Some additional events they have planned for this year include a speaker event in November with Craig Huisson from Pratt and Whitney Canada and hopefully some plant tours with Bell Helicopter and CAE in the winter. The McGill chapter is also going to be teaming up with the more well established Concordia chapter to put on a conference in January. The team at McGill are extremely excited for all the opportunities that they will be exploring this upcoming school year.
