On February Feb. 18, the University of Maryland's student chapter participated in “Discover Engineering Family Day,” as part of National Engineers Week. The event hosted over 6,300 children, parents and young adults at the National Building Museum in Washington, DC, inspiring guests to question, test and interact with science and engineering. The UMD chapter built simple paper “helicopters”, challenging children to try different designs and experiment with different amounts of weight and paper size. The UMD chapter has been consistently leading STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) activities in the AHS-The Vertical Flight Society's Federal City Chapter for many years.
